Sam Bigio is an American designer and creative director based in Miami. He holds a master’s degree in the history of decorative arts and design from Parsons School of Design in collaboration with the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum. In 2018, Bigio founded Monstruosus, a design studio focused on producing ceramic planters. The studio was developed in response to a lack of minimalist, matte-glazed planters suitable for styled interiors, drawing on Bigio’s background in design and visual direction. Monstruosus produces objects influenced by mid-century modern design, with an emphasis on material quality and restrained form. Prior to founding the studio, Bigio worked in creative and styling roles, including with the furniture brand Herman Miller. His work reflects an interest in the relationship between objects, interiors, and visual culture.
