Richard McGuire is an American multidisciplinary artist, author, and musician. His work spans illustration, comics, animation, music, and design. He is widely known for his groundbreaking comic Here, first published in 1989 in RAW magazine and later expanded into a full-length graphic novel. McGuire has also created numerous children’s books, including Night Becomes Day and What’s Wrong with This Book? In addition to his visual work, McGuire was a founding member and bassist of the post-punk band Liquid Liquid. His illustrations and comics have appeared in publications such as The New Yorker and McSweeney’s. Across mediums, McGuire’s work explores themes of time, space, and perception, often using simple visual language to convey complex ideas. His practice reflects a sustained engagement with narrative and experimental form.
