Josh Owen is an American industrial designer, educator, and author. He is the founder of Josh Owen LLC and serves as Professor and Director of the Vignelli Center for Design Studies at the Rochester Institute of Technology. Owen’s work spans furniture, lighting, and product design, with projects produced by international manufacturers. His designs are included in the permanent collections of institutions, including the Brussels Design Museum, Centre Georges Pompidou, the Chicago Athenaeum, the Corning Museum of Glass, the Denver Art Museum, the Musee des beaux-arts de Montreal, the National Museum of American Jewish History, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Red Dot Design Museum, and the Taiwan Design Museum. He is the author of Lenses for Design (2017) and Design for Study (2020). Owen’s practice emphasizes clarity, usability, and the relationship between design education and professional practice.
